Nitro girls end long losing skid

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- After winning the first two games of the season, the Nitro girls basketball team hit a dry spell under first-year Coach Annette Olenchick, losing the next 11 games.
The Wildcats were able to get back in the win column, though, snapping the skid to defeat visiting Riverside 53-42 at Nitro on Tuesday night.
It didn't look good early for Nitro (3-11), as the Warriors led 13-4 after the first quarter and still led by nine at halftime. The Wildcats stormed back in the second half, outscoring Riverside by 20 in the second half, including 19-5 in the fourth quarter.
Savannah Shamblin led the Wildcats with 19 points and Kelli Douglas added 13.
For Riverside (4-12), Heather Burford and Brittany Wood tallied 14 points each.
South Charleston 68, St. Albans 42 - The Black Eagles improved to 13-2 with the easy road win.
Alexis Tunstalle led South Charleston with 23 points, followed by Brittany Gordon with 15 and Keke Allen with 13.
For St. Albans (6-10), Lindsey Davis netted 12 points, while Sarah Reynolds added 11.
Tolsia 61, Sissonville 54 - Kellie Lahada scored 22 points, including 19 in the second half, to lead the Rebels (11-3) to their 11th consecutive win.
Courtney Stiltner added 12 points for Tolsia, followed by Kristie Lahada with 10.
For Sissonville (6-7), Taren Rhodes led the way with 18 points, while Logan Walker contributed 15.
Hurricane 72, Lincoln County 29 - The Redskins darted to a 32-7 first-quarter lead en route to the easy road win.
Allie Browne paced Hurricane (9-6) with 27 points, while Abby Watson added 17 points and 10 rebounds.
Tanisha Sturdavent led Hurricane with 11 rebounds.
For Lincoln County (0-14), Kerbi Slone scored a team-high eight points.
Chapmanville 54, Herbert Hoover 37 - Kelli Garrett scored 16 points and Kristen DesRocher added 15 to lead the Tigers (10-3) on the road.
For Hoover (9-7), Hannah King netted 16 points and grabbed 10 rebounds.
Cross Lanes Christian 50, Lakeside Christian (Ky.) 47 - Cortney Kendrick had a huge game in leading the Warriors to the home win, giving Lakeside Christian its first loss of the season.
Kendrick tallied a game-high 19 points and Julianna Lowery added 13 points and 10 steals for Cross Lanes (14-4).
